Placing the city behind Bangkok at 21.47M and London at 19.88M, the report estimates that Paris hosted 18.03M international overnight visitors by the end of 2016, a 2.1% increase from 2015.
About 35% of all international visitors in Paris are from outside of Europe, while the main countries accounting for its international visitors are the United Kingdom, at 11% of the total, followed by US at 9%, Italy at 8%, and Spain and Germany at 7%.
Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport is ranked first for cargo in Europe and second by passenger numbers after London Heathrow. With 170 investment projects underway in the French capital, the Global Cities Investment Monitor ranked the Paris 3rd after London and Shanghai. A.T. Kearney’s Global Cities Index also ranked Paris 3rd, Brookings’ Global Metro Monitor Map ranked Paris 6th, the Economist’s Global City Competitiveness Index ranked Paris 7th and the United Nations’ City Prosperity Index ranked Paris 9th.
